The interpreter’s hearing is a vital instrument for connecting with clients and sustaining their livelihood. The increased demand for interpreters to work both remotely and in person has posed many challenges in communicating effectively and optimizing the interpreting experience. Interpreters have limited tools and protections to care for their hearing and prevent hearing injuries. Hearing health protection strategies are necessary to perform interpreting work effectively. This session focuses on teachable strategies for hearing injury prevention, exploring interpreter self-advocacy tools and best care practices for maintaining and optimizing hearing health in the course of interpreting work.

Elizabeth Guinle-Salter MAT&I, CMI, NAATI began her career in Australia, earning a Master of Arts in Translation and Interpretation (Spanish) from Macquarie University in Sydney. She is a NAATI certified Professional Translator and a certified Medical Interpreter (NBCMI). Elizabeth is as a Medical Interpreter and Translator at Stanford Health Care. She is passionate about preserving interpreter wellness and advancing interpreter education. Elizabeth serves as the President of the California Healthcare Interpreting Association.
